Guam Hotel and Restaurant Association President Mary Rhodes encouraged island mayors Thursday to get villages more involved in the island’s tourism recovery.
Speaking at the Mayors’ Council of Guam meeting, Rhodes said her group wants to offer a workshop to help mayors plan a calendar of community events that will appeal to visitors, as well as promote special attractions or crafts offered by certain villages.
She said village festivals are a good place to start.
“Not only should we have these for our local community, but eventually plan to start to market and promote each of your villages all year long to our tourists, so that we the whole point of creating signature events at [Guam VIsitors Bureau] is to eventually market it to tourists,” she said.
Rhodes said her group would like to partner with mayors and non-profit groups to promote products or improve landmarks and historical sites in villages.
