Guam Sen. William Parkinson is inviting the public to attend a town hall meeting in Yigo to discuss the island’s political status options.
The event will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 10 at the Yigo Senior Citizen Center. The Guam Commission on Decolonization and its three task forces, Independence, Free Association, and Statehood, are expected to present their perspectives and answer questions from the community.
Parkinson said the meetings are designed to bring the conversation about Guam’s future directly to residents and ensure that people are informed, engaged, and able to voice their concerns.
“Now is the time to hold these town halls, because we are vulnerable. We can’t wait another decade to talk about it. The geopolitical realities demand that Guam’s people have their say now, while we still have time to shape our own destiny, rather than letting others decide it for us,” Parkinson said.
The Yigo meeting will be the first in a series of village-level town halls planned in the coming months, with meetings scheduled across the island from north to south.
The event is free and open to the public.
