A bill introduced by Sen. Tina Muña Barnes seeks to set up a pilot robotic process automation program at the Department of Revenue and Taxation to streamline repetitive processes at the agency.

According to the legislation, Bill 178-38 would automate computer-based tasks, allowing agency staff to dedicate more time to problem-solving, customer service and operational improvements.

The bill states the goal is to “enhance government efficiency, reduce human error in data transfer, and improve the overall experience for the public. This technology is to serve as a tool that alleviates repetitive workload on government employees and meet the growing demands of our community.”

Rev and Tax has been identified as the priority agency for the pilot program.

If approved, the bill would require the department to issue a request for proposal within 90 days. Data entry processes, including fiscal management systems, intragovernmental communication and simplified permitting would be targeted.

The request for proposal would be for no longer than five years.
