Bill No. 5-38 (COR) to enhance veterans’ license plates has been moved to the voting file at the Guam Legislature.

If enacted, the legislation would allow veterans to personalize their license plates with their branch of service and the military operation they served in.

Entries will include: Korean War, Vietnam War, Persian Gulf War, Operation Desert Shield, Operation Desert Storm, Operation Desert Sabre, Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation New Dawn, as well as any wars or hostile operations recognized with the written concurrence of the Guam National Guard or Department of Military Affairs.

The design updates also include awards or medals of valor they’ve earned, such as the Purple Heart or Silver Star. There will also be an optional space for a disability symbol and a custom graphic selected by the Department of Revenue and Taxation.

The bill, which had strong support among senators who spoke Tuesday, is set for a vote Thursday at the Guam Congress Building.
