The Guam Air National Guard will welcome its first new squadron in 25 years during a Saturday ceremony at Andersen Air Force Base.

The 293rd Combat Communication Squadron will strengthen connectivity on Guam and across the Indo-Pacific.

It will support the local government and residents during disaster response and work with military commanders during defense operations.

The 293rd will have a formal partnership with Andersen’s 644th Combat Communications Squadron. The active duty Air Force and Air National Guard units will train together and work together.

The collaborative model is the only one of its kind across the U.S. Air Force, according to National Guard officials.
