CNMI Governor Arnold I. Palacios was medevaced to Guam on board a military helicopter for specialized care after collapsing Wednesday.
Palacios was conducting a wedding ceremony at the Governor’s Office when he suddenly collapsed.
Lt. Governor David Apatang, who is now the acting governor, told the media that he did not see Palacios collapse but saw him transported by an ambulance to the hospital.
The CNMI Governor’s Office issued a statement saying Palacios “is in stable condition, in good spirits, and is interacting normally with his medical team and family.”
After an initial assessment, the medical team at the Commonwealth Healthcare Center Corp. recommended that the governor be medically transported to Guam for additional specialized care.
Palacios was expected to arrive in Guam Wednesday evening and be taken to Guam Regional Medical City.
Commonwealth Healthcare Center Corp. is in close coordination with local and off-island partners to ensure that he receives the support, care, and resources needed for his recovery and well-being, according to the CNMI governor's office.
