A team of researchers from Palau International Coral Reef Center has completed monitoring of 31 reef sites across Palau’s main islands.
The monitoring was carried out between October and December 2024, with additional analysis completed last month.
The team collected data on corals, invertebrates and fish. The information will help researchers detect changes in coral reefs and evaluate the effectiveness of marine conservation and management strategies.
Palau International Coral Reef Center has been monitoring the island nation’s reefs since 2001, building one of the longest and most comprehensive coral reef datasets in the region.
The monitoring program is supported by The Nature Conservancy as part of a regional initiative funded by the Global Fund for Coral Reefs under the Micronesia Coral Reefs Program.
