The United States Joint Color Guard leads the 80th Guam Liberation Day parade in Hagatña, Guam, July 21, 2024. The parade celebrated U.S. forces liberating Guam from the Japanese Armed Forces during World War II.

A parade, festival and three fireworks displays will be part of Guam’s 81st Liberation Day celebration on Monday.

Roads will close at 5 a.m., and a 5k run will start at 6 a.m. At 7:21, the Liberation Mile run will begin, and the parade will start at 8 a.m., traveling from Adelup to the grandstand in front of CHamoru Village.

The parade will feature floats from villages, groups and government agencies as well as special tributes honoring war survivors and liberators.

Guam Visitors Bureau will host three fireworks displays at 7:21 p.m. at the Hagatña wastewater treatment plant, Fort Apugan and the Statue of Liberty at Paseo Point.

The theme of the parade is "Fanohge CHamoru" – Stand Ye Guamanians, which comes from the opening line of Guam’s anthem, written by Dr. Ramon Manalisay Sablan in 1919.

The island is celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Aug. 1, 1950, signing of the Organic Act this year. The Organic Act granted American citizenship to Guam residents and established a civilian government.

The Mayors' Council of Guam is hosting a three-day festival at the CHamoru Village huts from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and from 5 to 10 p.m. Monday.
