A new bill introduced by Senator Therese Terlaje aims to honor veterans from World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War.

Bill 149-38 proposes waiving vehicle license plate fees for eligible veterans. The measure seeks to recognize aging veterans and expand benefits beyond those already provided to disabled and decorated service members.

During the public hearing, veterans showed support for the proposal, which comes as Guam prepares to mark key war anniversaries in 2025.

The Bureau of Budget and Management Research estimates that waiving these fees would result in a potential annual revenue loss of around $60,000.

Speaker Tony Ada offered an alternative suggestion – redirecting the estimated funds toward the upkeep of veteran memorials.

“That’s the money we put out as veterans, going right back into veteran monuments,” he said.

The bill remains under legislative review.
