Governor Lou Leon Guerrero concluded her term as Chair of the Micronesian Islands Forum (MIF) this week in Majuro, Republic of the Marshall Islands, officially handing over leadership to Marshall Islands President Hilda Heine.
During her tenure, the Forum secured $400,000 in federal funding from the U.S. Department of the Interior to establish a permanent Secretariat. It also advanced regional Green Growth initiatives and promoted Micronesian priorities on global platforms, including the United Nations.
Governor Leon Guerrero introduced a resolution advocating for a regional medical complex to serve as a hub for specialty care, emergency response, and public health research. She also emphasized the importance of addressing Guam’s decolonization and political status.
As she stepped down, the Governor extended an invitation to Kiribati to rejoin the Forum, underscoring the value of regional unity and collective progress.
