A second public hearing was held Friday regarding a bill to return back land previously owned by the descendants of Francisco D. Perez. The heirs claim their contract with the Government of Guam was never fulfilled after selling the property.
Governor Lou Leon Guerrero introduced the bill to return the land, but the measure faced mixed reactions.
While some testified in support for the bill, several lawmakers and community members have opposed it.
In opposing the measure, Senator Chris Barnett said he has no new information to change his stance, saying in part, ”I don’t think this is our property to give away. I think this is the people of Guam.”
A third hearing is scheduled for July 17.
