Taiwan-based Billion Electric Group has successfully implemented advanced solar-plus-storage microgrid systems across Palau, Tuvalu, and the Marshall Islands. These installations aim to reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels and promote environmental sustainability in these Pacific island nations.

The project encompasses a total of 495 kilowatts peak (kWp) of solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity and 1,997 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of battery energy storage systems (BESS). These modular microgrids are designed to provide stable green energy for agriculture, aquaculture, and local communities. The initiative is projected to decrease carbon emissions by approximately 800 metric tons annually. Notably, aquaculture centers and demonstration farms are achieving over 50% renewable energy self-sufficiency, while livestock farms, offices, and dormitories are now operating entirely on green energy, leading to significant reductions in both energy costs and environmental impact.

The project utilizes Made in Taiwan renewable energy technologies, including Billion's Fusio series BESS, Giga series PV inverters, and an AI-driven Energy Management System (EMS). According to the company, this system enables real-time power optimization, bidirectional energy transmission, and cloud-based monitoring, significantly enhancing grid stability and energy efficiency. It prioritizes solar power utilization and incorporates black start capability, allowing diesel generators to restart autonomously in the event of power grid failures.

Beyond these installations, Billion Electric Group has established operations in Japan and Australia and plans to deploy 50 megawatts (MW) of energy storage systems while expanding into Southeast Asia and the Middle East. Tim Chen, President and CEO of Billion Electric Group, stated, "We develop flexible and scalable microgrid solutions for diverse applications, enabling the energy transition in off-grid and remote regions. By fostering local service teams and forming global partnerships, we ensure system reliability, accelerate green energy adoption, and enhance grid resilience."

These efforts align with the broader renewable energy goals of the Pacific island nations. For instance, Palau aims to achieve 45% renewable energy by 2025, as part of its commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting sustainable development.
