General Storm Info

As Typhoon Sinlaku continues to batter the Northern Marianas, officials on Guam have begun damage assessments.

Although winds have died down on Guam, the island remains in COR 1, and people are urged to stay indoors until the all-clear is given.

The eye of the slow-moving storm, which traveled only 25 miles in 14 hours, was located 60 miles northwest of Saipan and Tinian and 155 miles north of Guam at 11 a.m.

Typhoon-force winds extend 75 miles from the center of the storm, and tropical storm-force winds extend outward from the center up to 265 miles.

Damage and Restoration

Guam Power Authority said the system did not experience an islandwide blackout during the storm, but only the Dededo Combustion Turbine 1 & 2 units and the Piti 7 units remained operational throughout the storm.

Units will come on once system damaged is assessed and repairs are made.

GPA is aware of all customer outages throughout the island, so customers are asked to limit calls to dispatch. Critical issues such as lines on the ground, blown transformers and low voltages should be reported.

Any downed lines and equipment may be energized and can be dangerous.

Some gas stations are open with long lines. Be aware that stores and gas stations may be limited to cash transactions.

Some traffic lights are out, and debris is present in roadways. Motorists are urged to use caution when driving.

Water Outages

Guam Waterworks Authority workers are conducting assessments of water and wastewater treatment plants, sewer lift stations, booster pumps, reservoirs, and wells. GWA is aware of outages throughout the island, and low to no water pressure service has been reported in parts of Barrigada, Dededo, Maite, Mangilao, Sinajana, Yigo, and Yona.

As of 10:50 a.m., 72 wells were online, with six wells on the island-wide power system and 66 wells on standby power generation.

GWA is asking customers to conserve water.

No backups or sanitary sewer overflows have been reported to GWA at this time.
