Guam Power Authority is advising customers to start conserving electricity, as rates will increase beginning Thursday.
The Public Utilities Commission raised the fuel recovery charge, also known as the known as the Levelized Energy Adjustment Clause, from 19.4 cents per kilowatt-hour to 28.27 cents per kilowatt-hour.
The fuel recovery charge is normally the highest part of the power bill.
Residential customers using 1,000 kilowatt-hours a month will see their bills go up by $88.56 a month. Customers who use more electricity will face even higher bills after the increase takes effect Oct. 1.
