Guam labor officials are warning the public about a Facebook scam that falsely claims to offer grants from the Department of Labor.
The posts are not affiliated with the Guam Department of Labor or any legitimate government program, and residents are urged to exercise caution.
The fraudulent posts appear to come from people posing as government representatives, claiming that users are eligible for federal or labor-related grants. Some use the Department of Labor's name, located in Guam, or similar wording to appear credible.
“This is a scam. The Guam Department of Labor does not offer any kind of individual grant assistance through Facebook,” said GDOL Director David Dell’Isola. “We want to make it absolutely clear that these messages are not coming from our office, and we urge the public to be vigilant and avoid providing any personal information.”
Anyone who encounters the posts is strongly encouraged to call them to the Office of the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division at 671-475-2720.
